Father VS Lions

Wow mothers sure are competitive.

I mean, I always knew that they were but it's different when you actually see it in action. It's like how I know on a conscious level that lions are dangerous and wild animals but seeing a lion rip apart its prey using brute strength and savagery just brings everything up a couple of notches. My heart is racing.

Welcome to Glorietta's own Midnight Madness Sale Amazing Race.

To promote their sale, Glorietta invited a few bloggers to kill each other gladiator-style race thru the new Glorietta 2 while shopping for back-to-school items. We were given a budget to stick to, some GCs, some cash, and Katniss' bow and arrow.

We were split into teams of 2 then briefed on the rules and objectives of the race to which I can't really share with you because my eyes kind of glazed and everything the woman said just went over my head and out the door. I think I was still trying to figure out how to work this bow. Thankfully my partner was listening and wrote the important stuff down.

Don't be fooled by their smiles, they be lions.
This is where it gets dicey. Our main task throughout this race is to shop. Man I'm screwed. Don't you know men hate shopping? Our job as men is to hold on to our money not give it away! I don't even know where to begin and suddenly I have 1 hour to complete all our shopping and 1 Million different options/colors/styles/sizes/variants to choose from. I have a hard enough time picking out what clothes to wear in the morning. I held on tightly to my bow as we marched down the escalator.

They called us Team Crewcut and to this day I still don't know why. It's one of those mysteries of the universe that will one day be solved on a Discovery Channel special. Anyway, Team Crewcut had a sound strategy. To plot out our race path, we first made a quick stop at the information desk, took down all the locations of all the shops we needed to go to and voila instant mayhem.

A different kind of jungle for a different kind of race.

I will be back next time at a more relaxed pace.

Glorietta 2 looks incredibly nice. It's new, it feels really bright and spacious. I would say it's designed to celebrate our country's number 1 pastime - malling. So it is with great pain that I must apologize to this cathedral of commerce for running roughshod all over this hallowed ground. And to the sales ladies and security guards whom I might have startled with my sudden rage-questions of "HOW MUCH IS THIS?!" and "BOSS SAAN BA YUNG JUST G.?!" I deeply apologize.

You have eluded me for the last time Just G.
And this is why partnerships are important, because I had a lion on my team. A lion who's really really good at shopping. So while she would be inside the shops like a hurricane I would be outside taking pictures of the store signs.

Like so.
Or shoes.
You can see more Instagram pictures I took during the race here. Or even more from the Fatherland Facebook page.

A few things I learned though, despite the chaos of running with a pack of lions is
1. You cannot disturb a lion when a lion is shopping.
2. The shopping is best left to the lion.
3. A lion can sniff out the best deals from up to 20 feet away.
4. A lion will change outfits if necessary. Or even if it isn't. You know, just for the heck of it.

I'm sure there are more lessons here but there's only so much information I can retain before I start to zone out. But you know, winning isn't everything. It's all about sportsmanship and fun. Camaraderie. Esprit de corp, etc, etc.

The Grand Prize Winners.
I ran with the lions. And I walked away with a Kitty.

Thank you to Glorietta and Ayala Malls for a super fun day. Don't forget to visit Glorietta this Friday for the Midnight Madness Back-To-School Sale! From May 31 - June 2, 2013. Up to 70% off wut!

The Grand Prize was actually a special edition Hello Kitty lunch box
with a matching Sony MP3 Player and accessories inside.
