Music to me is a big deal. I
don’t see it as merely being the soundtrack to life, something that plays in
the background, occasionally hitting a crescendo during the milestone moments
of our lives. It isn’t merely a way of remembering the past the way a song can
make certain memories surface and emotions bubble it’s way back to the top,
though it does that very well. It isn’t merely your companion in an otherwise
lonely ride home or to school or to work or to wherever it is you’re going or
whatever it is you’re running from.

Absent
It was my first day at
school and I didn’t cry. I know that sounds odd considering I’m a full grown
adult and a father but nevertheless it was the truth.
My wife and I planned to
have me sit in with my son during one of his days at school, which in truth is
really just 2 and a half hours. It’s not even “school” school. More like play
school where he can learn how to follow rules and basic things like colors,
shapes and numbers. But the main reason why we’re sending our son to school is
for him to be able to socialize with other kids and adults not named mom and
dad. Also, we were down one yaya.

Self Medication
The wife and I started the new year with a bit of self … help?
It’s funny you know, the term ‘self-help’ is often looked down upon, (at least most guys think so) and the people you catch in the self-help section of the bookstore are perceived as weak or unstable or someone with serious problems. Me too you know, I’ve always been skeptical of people getting inside my head and riding around on the roller coaster of my memories. Myself included. I don’t like rehashing the past. In fact, I’d like to forget it.

Peek-a-boo!
Last day of the year, last entry for the year, why not. This year we brought another life into the world. To be honest, it’s easy. Most anyone can do it. And in this country, most people do. What’s hard is raising your children to be… I don’t know. And I suppose that’s where the problem lies.

Battleground Starbucks
So the wife and I took our 2 year old son out with us tonight to High Street in the Fort. We try to do things with him where it’s just us, without his brother. We want to make sure that even though his newborn brother is getting a lot of attention these days, he’s still a priority in this family. I actually really enjoy these times with him. There are definitely times when I want to be selfish and have him all to myself. I’m sure he feels the same way about sharing his parents with his new brother. So it works out.

Give & Take
You know what happens when you get married? You have less sex. You’d think the opposite were true but past the honeymoon phase, you both begin to form a routine of work, house chores, pet chores (we’re dog people), grocery chores, laundry chores, cooking chores, movie, dinner, dinner with friends, etc. But it’s mostly chores. Stuff you have to do to keep life moving. Moving where? I don’t know. It’s moot at this point isn’t it? We’re here. We’re married. Let’s get on with it.

Press Start
There’s a first time for everything. Except when it’s your second time.
I have a three week-old baby. He’s my second-born, my first-born just turned two. I haven’t fully wrapped my brain around being a dad and what that means and already the hand-me-downs are well, being handed down. We’re looking into contraception immediately.
